St. Ansgar, Iowa - Naurice Dean Rockafellow, 84, of St. Ansgar, died on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Paul Weeg officiating.
Burial will be in the Six Mile Grove Cemetery, rural Lyle, Minn. Military honors will be conducted by the Walter T. Enneberg Post #358 of the American Legion. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
Dean was born on November 17, 1927, to Lawrence and Mary Lou (Springer) Rockafellow in Toeterville. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1945. Dean served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a military policeman based in Germany from 1950 to 1952. On July 3rd, 1955, he married Marilyn Sampson at Six Mile Grove Church, rural Lyle, Minn. Dean and Marilyn operated a Grade A dairy farm with registered Ayrshire cattle for 25 years. They also raised chickens and Dean sold Hyline chicks. He worked for the Mitchell County ASC office and served on the Toeterville Elevator Board and REC Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mary Lou Rockafellow; his brother, Dale Rockafellow; his sister-in-law, Rose Rockafellow; and nephew Todd Rockafellow.
Dean is survived by his wife Marilyn of 56 years; two sons, Dan (Judy) Rockafellow of Springfield, Mo., and Chris (Jean) Rockafellow of Stratford, Mo.; two daughters, Ann (Dave) Johnson of Grand Meadow, Minn., and Lola (John) Gleason of Morton, Ill.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Delos Rockafellow of Iowa City; sister, Mary Lou (Leonard) Amundson of St. Ansgar; sister-in-law, Joan Rockafellow of St. Ansgar; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
