Charles “Carl” Friedrich Zilk – August 11, 1811 – July 31, 1905

Charles “Carl” Friedrich Zilk was born in North Prussia, August 11, 1811, the son of Johan Christian Zilk and Louise (Wittsoken) Zilk.

He came to this Township in 1856, and located in the southwest quarter of Section 13. He was married to Mary Huebner in his native land on October 25, 1835.

They had four children, the oldest died in childhood. A son August died at the age of fifteen. He was frozen to death December 2, 1856 while out on the prairie in Howard County during a severe snow storm. Two children remain Charles Jr., and William Zilk .

Carl as he was known died July 31, 1905 and was buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Mitchell Co., Iowa. His wife Mary preceded him in death on July 13, 1888.
