Merle L. Tibbetts, 75, of 137 Sunrise Dr. NW, died Wednesday, January 18, 1995, in his home after a long illness. Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday, St. Mark's United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Kenneth Bell. Private burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are with Turner Chapel West.

Survivors include his wife, Beatrice; three sons, Steven and wife Sheila of Appleton, Wisconsin, Kirk and wife Nannette of Des Moines and Jon of Dubuque; and four grandchildren, Sara, Susan, Cameron and Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Lena Tibbetts, and a stepbrother, Ellsworth Tibbetts.

Merle was born October 17, 1919, in Osage, where he married Beatrice H. Gaines on February 9, 1947. Merle owned and operated Tibbetts Refrigeration in Osage for 10 years, and was a control fitter for Local Union 125 in Cedar Rapids before retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Bruce Masonic Lodge, El Kahir Shrine and Local Union 125. He was selected to serve on submarine duty during World War II.

A memorial fund has been established and may be made to St. Luke's Hospice, American Lung Association or St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Osage, Iowa — Merle Tibbetts, son-in-law of Willis Gaines, has purchased an interest in the Soda Grill from Mr. Gaines.

Mr. Tibbetts is a native Osage resident. He was graduated from the Osage school and served in the navy. Since his discharge in November, 1945, he has been attending the Southwestern Technical School, Weatherford, Okla. He has completed a course in refrigeration and air conditioning

The Tibbetts family will be at home in an apartment in the Tottenham home. Mr. and Mrs. Tibbetts were recently married.

Mrs. Tibbetts, the former Beatrice Gaines, is a registered nurse, and terminated her position at the City hospital, New York City to be married.
