Jessie Mae (Paul) Tienken – December 22, 1877 – December 20, 1958

Jessie Mae Paul was born on a farm near McIntire, Iowa, Dec. 22, 1877 to Edward and Amy Paul. She lived most of her life in the McIntire vicinity, before moving to Riceville, where she lived for many years. Following the death of her husband John Carl Tienken, she moved to Waterloo, where she had made her home at 1301 Sycamore, St. until the time of her death. She attended the Bailey School to garner her education.

On Nov. 7, 900 she was married to John Carl Tienken in the home of her parents, To this union were born 4 children, one of whom Pearl Tienken Stockman preceded her parents in death.
Mrs. Tienken has devoted her life to the care of her invalid son, Harry with utmost tenderness and understanding. The last years when Mr. Tienken was alive the family was a close knit group. Mr. Tienken passed away March 13, 1955, at Riceville, and she moved with her son to Waterloo, where his card and livelihood remained her sole concern.

The past 5 weeks, Mrs. Tienken has been suffering from a heart condition, with several severe attacks. She was taken to Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo Wednesday Dec. 17, where she passed away Sat. Dec. 20, at 6:35 PM of a fatal heart Attack.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Harry at home, Robert M. Ricville and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Lila Bowers, Waterloo, 2 sisters Mrs. Harry Randall, Marshalltown, Mrs. Cliff Betts, Cour d'Alene, Idaho, 3 brothers Levi Paul Riceville, Arthur Paul, Conrath, WI and George Paul Venice, CA. One grandson Robert Lee Tienken, Riceville also survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter Pearl Stockman one Granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Dec. 24 at 2 PM in the First Baptist Church in Riceville with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Riceville. Rev. Percy Burns officiating. Martz Funeral Home at LeRoy, MN was in charge of arrangements
