AGED RESIDENT OF MCINTIRE
ED BERGADEEN TAKES OWN LIFEEd Bergadeen, 71, McIntire, died at Mercy Hospital Mason City Tuesday morning, following knife injuries on his throat which Sheriff Lewis Haberkorn said were self-inflicted.
Mr. Bergadeen was found at 5:30 p.m. Sunday by Howard Griffen, a neighbor, who often brought food to the aged man and who had not seen him during the day. Mr. Bergadeen was in bed and the bleeding had stopped. Mr. Haberkorn investigated a report that Mr. Bergageen had been in poor health and was very despondent. He had only recently returned from Rochester, Minnesota.
Mr. Haberkorn found a jagged 10-inch butcher knife and a pocket knife, both covered with blood, in the room where the man was laying in bed. He had no close relatives.
Funeral service will be held today, Thursday, at 2 p.m. in the Baptist Church at McIntire, with the Reverend B. H. Thorlakson officiating.
Burial will be in the Wayne Cemetery.
