Obituary-Nixon

Francis Marion Nixon was born in St. Joseph county, Michigan, December 16, 1840, and died at his home, November 29, 1918. Although he had been in failing health for several months, his death came as a surprise and sudden shock to his relatives and many friends. He succumbed following a stroke of paralysis.

He was united in marriage to Josie D. Bishop, January 1, 1867, who preceded him in death nearly twenty years ago.

It is doubtful if there are many men more widely known throughout this section of the state than Mr. Nixon, as he was on of the pioneers of the county. He came to the county a poor, poor boy, but by hard work, economy and push, he attained to prosperity and was one of the well to do farmers of the county.

The deceased was a member of the Methodist church, and was a faithful attendant at the services as long as his health would permit.

He is survived by four sons, Frank, Edgar, Walter and Arthur, (the two later being in service, the former at Paris Island, S.C. and the latter in France) and five daughters; Mrs. Frank Lonergan of Kasson, Minnesota; Mrs. Raymond Shirven, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Mrs. Win Davis of Fowler, Calif.; Mrs. Fred McElhinney of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Alice Nixon, together with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the family in their bereavement and especially in the daughter, Alice, who has been his constant companion since the mother's death.
