Obituary-Wilke

Ferdinand Julius Wilke was born on Jan. 17, 1849, at Hitadorf, Province of Brandenberg, Germany, and was baptized and confirmed at this place. In 1878 he emigrated to America, with his parents and sisters, making his home near Mitchell for a year and a half. The next six years he spent with his parents on a farm near Carpenter.

June 1, 1880, he was united in marriage with Johanna nee Stanghor. This union was blessed with four children.

For the next twenty-five years, he was a successful farmer in Newburg township, and for the past twelve years he was a resident of St. Ansgar.

Mr. Wilke had a strong and robust constitution, til about two years ago when he was compelled to submit to two operations, but found no relief. About six weeks ago he became bedridden and finally went to the hospital at Hampton. However, his malady had progressed too far to have a successful operation performed; all that could be done was to drain the diseased organ. He suffered extremely both before and after the operation hovering between life and death until he peacefully passed away Tuesday evening, October 17, at 10:30 o'clock.

He leaves to mourn his demise his widow, his sons, Otto, of St. Ansgar, Julius of Stockton, Calif.,and his daughters, Lena of St. Ansgar, and Mrs. Edwin Title of Sioux City, his brother Julius of St. Ansgar, and his sisters, Mrs. Fred Feldt, of St. Ansgar, Mrs. Peter Knudson of Kanawha, and Mrs. C. Winter of Owatonna.

Mr. Wilke attained the age of 72 years and 9 months.

The funeral services for Mr. Wilke were held last Friday at Immanuel Lutheran church and cemetery, Rev. Brammer officiating.
