Martin Olaus Arno was born August 18, 1905 at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa to Ole Knutson Arno and Maren Andrine Petersen Larsdatter Sorlie, the last of three children.

He had two older siblings:
Knud Alfred (born July 23, 1896 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, married Marie Blockhus February 20, 1918 Fayette, Iowa, died February 13, 1973 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa); and

Clara Christine Arno (born June 14, 1900 Rock, Mitchell, Iowa, married Carl Gaylord Nelson May 12, 1920 Mtchell, Iowa, died November 3, 1976 Mitchell, Iowa).

Martin was baptized at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church in Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

He died June 2, 1907 at home at Rock township, Mitchell Co., Iowa and was buried at the RCLC Cemetery, Meroa, Iowa.
