Funeral services were held Saturday, February 14, 1987 at United Methodist Church, Osage for Robert Wilkes, 73, of Osage. Mr. Wilkes died Thursday, February 12, 1987 at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.
Mr. Wilkes was a retired cattle buyer for many years in the Osage, Riceville and Decorah (?) areas.
He was born October 22, 1913 at Leaf River, Illinois to Robert J. and Mary Carpenter Wilkes. He moved to Riceville with his parents as an infant. He attended Riceville schools and graduated from Riceville High School in 1931 and from Iowa State University in 1937. He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of Osage, four sons, Robert C., of Cedar Rapids, Richard of Minneapolis, John of Decorah, and Thomas of West Union, and two stepsons, Craig Callahan and Michael Callahan; nine grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Rudy ([Mary] Leone) Doerr of Osage.
