Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16, 1987, at First Lutheran Church, Glenville, Minnesota, for Walter G. Oakland of Carpenter. Rev. S. McRae officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery, rural Glenville. Mr. Oakland died on Thursday, February 12, 1987 at his home.
He was a Carpenter resident for 34 years and owned a welding and repair shop until his retirement.
Mr. Oakland was born on February 16, 1923, in Freeborn county, Minnesota, to Jacob and Inga (Thompson) Oakland. On November 16, 1942 he married Helen Goodrich at Glenville. They lived in London and Myrtle areas before moving to Carpenter. He served many years as a volunteer for the Carpenter Fire Dept.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; six daughters: Mrs. Harold (Lynette) Vandenheugel and Mrs. Daniel (Deanna) Young both of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Mrs. Carl (Jacqueline) Addig of Glenville; Mrs. Melvin (Patricia) Johnson of Toeterville; Mrs. Jerry (Cheryl) Romero and Sandra Oakland both of Monrovia, California; a son, Ricky of Albert Lea; four sisters: Mrs. Robert (Eleanora) Buchanan, Mrs. Martin (Ingebor) Broitzman, Mrs. James (Eliane) Hill and Mrs. Harold (Idella) Hinds; five brothers: Lawrence, Norman, Kenneth, George and Robert; and 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Oakland was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter.
