RICEVILLE, IOWA — Paul Runde, 97, of Riceville and formerly of the LeRoy, Minnesota, area, died Thursday, November 3, 2005, at the Riceville Community Rest Home.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patricks Catholic Church in LeRoy, Minn.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hindt Funeral Home, 615 N. Broadway in LeRoy, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Paul Runde -- Riceville, Iowa

RICEVILLE, IOWA - The funeral Mass for Paul Runde will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in LeRoy, with the Rev. Steve Peterson officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. Runde, 97, of Riceville, Iowa, formerly of the LeRoy area, died Thursday (Nov. 3, 2005) at Riceville Community Rest Home, where he had resided for nearly three years.

He was born March 9, 1908, in Alverskichen, Germany, and had seven brothers and eight sisters.

He came to the United States on April 1, 1927. He worked in Austin at Kinsman's Greenhouse for 1 1/2 years and later worked at greenhouses in California and Montana. He returned to Germany in December 1937 and brought back his future wife, Elizabeth. They returned to the U.S. in February 1938. On April 21, 1938, he married Elizabeth in Riceville. In 1941, they bought a farm in Howard County, Iowa.

His wife died on October 17, 1957. He moved into Riceville in September 1999, and moved into the rest home in November 2002. He enjoyed visiting, puzzles, solitaire and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth (Edward) Adams of Waverly, Iowa, and Anna (Thomas) Bonnette of Riceville; a son, Eddie (Corinne) of LeRoy; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. A son and a daughter preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hindt Funeral Home in LeRoy, and an hour before the service Monday at the church. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
