Maybelle Bertha Plowman, nee Tatum, daughter of Humphrey and Elizabeth Tatum was born near Carpenter, Iowa, on May 4, 1901. She was the youngest of three children. She was educated in the public school and grew to womanhood in this community where she won for herself a host of friends.
At the age of fourteen she was baptized by Rev. Wm. Galbreth. She was united in marriage to George H. Plowman of Carpenter, on October 23, 1917. To this union one son was born, Gerald Keith, at the Park Hospital in Mason City, August 20, 1929. Only a few short weeks was she permitted to enjoy the gifts of the little son.
She was called to depart this life on Friday September 27, 1929 at the Park Hospital Mason City at 9:40 p.m.
She leaves to mourn her untimely death, her husband and the son, the mother and stepfather Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Robinson of Nora Springs, two brothers and one sister namely Mathew and Frank Tatum of Mason City and Lucille Robinson of Nora Springs, also a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a kind and loving wife and daughter and a friend to all. She will be missed in the home and the community.
Funeral services were held Sunday September 29, conducted by the local pastor Rev. R. E. Walters and Rev. William Galbreth a former pastor now at Plymouth, with brief services at the home at 2:00 p.m.and service at the Evangelical Methodist church at Carpenter at 2:30 p.m. The message of songs were broght by a ladies quartet composed of Mmes. Russel and Nuel Culbertson, Ed Drehr and Glen Kittleson, accompanied by Mrs. John Meyers. The pall bearers were with one exception classmates of the class of 1915 namely Messers- Chester Throne, Nuel Culbertson, Earl and Merle Nicholson, Harvey Kleinworth and Gilbert Johnson. The body was laid to rest in the Carpenter cemetery. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community goes out to Mr. Plowman and little son, the mother and all other relatives who so deeply mourn the loss of this loved one.
