Maynard Eugene Satern

RICEVILLE - Maynard Eugene Satern, 92, of rural Riceville passed away at his home on Tuesday January 3, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at the McIntire United Methodist Church in McIntire on Saturday, January 7, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Robert Holdorf will officiate with burial in the Wayne Township Cemetery in rural McIntire. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Friday during the hours of 5:30-7:30 p.m. and one hour before services at the church.

Maynard was born April 22, 1919, to John and Lillie Hundertmark Satern in Chokio, Minnesota. Maynard graduated from Bode High School, Bode, Iowa, in 1937. On February 15, 1939, he was united in marriage to Wilma Delores Torgerson. They lived in the Bode area and had three children before Maynard was drafted into the Army during World War II.

Maynard served in the Pacific Theater. He was with the landing of the beachhead at Okinawa and earned a purple heart. He was honorably discharged in December of 1945. After returning home and having another child, Maynard moved his family to rural Riceville to farm.

Maynard will be remembered for his love of life, friends and family. He enjoyed putting up his Christmas decorations for years, fishing with the guys and having a cup of coffee with everyone.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Larry Anderson; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Betty Satern; and a grand son-in-law Jamie Buser.

He is survived by a son, Gary (Loretta) Satern of Mason City; daughter, Kathy Runde of Jefferson City, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, Gene (Jody) Satern, Kim (James) Knudsen, Deanna (Bob) Nost, David (Cindy) Anderson, Sheila (Brian) Jones, Angie (John) Milewsky, Daphne Buser, Kelly (Kurt) Wix, Randy (Miki) Runde, Kristy (Mark) Zeitler, Dan Anderson and Kari (Dayne) Olson; and 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
