Charles J. Prochaska

July 6, 1925 – December 6, 2011

Charles J. Prochaska, 86, of Findlay, Ohio passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at his residence.

Charles entered this life on July 6, 1925 in rural Mitchell County, Iowa the son of Emil and Verna (Canny) Prochaska. His early life was spent on the farm. He graduated from Orchard High School in 1942. At the tender age of 18, he was inducted into the U.S. Army taking basic training at Ft. Hood, Texas and then parachute school at Ft. Benning, Georgia.

In World wear II he fought in several European battles with the famed 101st Airborne Division 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment including Operation Market Garden and The Battle of the Bulge. Returning home at war's end, he spent several years farming, moving to Ohio in 1956.

On November 11, 1950 he was united in marriage to Huberta Clark, who survives him.

Also surviving are two daughters: Laura (Stephen) Switzer of Pettisville, OH and Jane (Bill) Cole of Jenera, OH; four sons: Steve (Carla) of Bucyrus, OH, David (Susan) of Plain City, OH, Dan (Susan) of Oxford, OH, and Marty (Dena) of Kingston, OH; brother, Harold of Waterloo, IA; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceeding him in death were his parents; two sons: Paul Thomas and John Andrew; two sisters: Dorothy Boekemeier and Marie Knight; and a brother, Glen.

Charles spent 40 years working in various agricultural related business fields including the Surge Dairy, Diamond Plant Life Fertilizer, Sohigro, and retired from Terra in 1989. Charles enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Findlay.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2011, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, downtown Findlay. Rev. Msgr. Michael Hohenbrink celebrant. Burial will be in Bishop Cemetery, Eagle Township, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.

Visitation will be held from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 p.m., at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and/or a charity of the donor's choice.
