PIONEER WOMAN DEAD
Mrs. Janet Eckford Passed Away Sunday at her Home Here-Funeral Service Sunday Afternoon
Janet Wilson Eckford was born in Manor Water, Scotland, on June 26, 1841, and died at her home near Osage, October 5, 1919. Her girlhood was spent in Scotland, where she received her education and also united with the Presbyterian church.
On April 26, 1866, she was united in marriage with Robert Eckford and shortly afterward the young couple came to America to found their home. They settled in Mitchell county and engaged in farming which they continued as a life work.
They worthy couple were permitted over fity years of wedded life together, celebrating their golden wedding anniversary just a few months prior to Mr. Eckford's death on February 19, 1917.
Although Mrs. Eckford had been a continuous resident of Mitchell county for more than fifty-three years, she was not widely known owing to poor health the greater part of her life, which kept her confined to her own home. This kind and loving mother leaves three sons, Robert Jr., John W. and James T., all of Osage, also one grandchild, Glen H., of whom she was very fond. There is also one brother, James Wilson of Edinburgh, Scotland.
