Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 12, 1988 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, for Mrs. Walter (Marie) Vining, 81, of rural Osage. The Reverend Leon Connolly officiated and burial was in the Osage Cemetery. She died Saturday, April 9, 1988 at her home.

Mrs. Vining was born May 8, 1906 at Zearing to Phillip and Alice (Stevens) Buffington. As a child, she moved with her family to a farm near Titonka. She attended rural schools in the Titonka area and graduated from Titonka High School in 1924. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught rural schools near Titonka and in the Garrison, Sheffield and Osage school systems.

On December 30, 1940, she was married to Walter Vining.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include her husband, Walter, Osage; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Joy) Kowalski of Cullowhee, North Carolina and Mrs. Judy Michaud of Osage; one son, Randi of Osage; four grandchildren, Cory, Jeremy, Philip and Casey; and one sister, Mrs. Roy (Elsie) Hansen of Titonka.
