TRAIN WRECK IN STORM KILLS THREE
RELIEF ENGINE STRIKES CABOOSE AT ALTA VISTA
8 INJURED; SNOWPLOW CARAVAN LEADS AMBULANCES TO HOSPITAL.Alta Vista, Iowa – Toll of death in the storm-caused train wreck a half mile south of here Thursday afternoon had reached three Friday, and one of the eight injured was not expected to live.
A caravan of five snowplows, from New Hampton, Elma and Alta Vista succeeded in getting ambulances through to New Hampton with the injured.
WAYNE L. MILLER, 31, St. Paul, Minnesota was killed outright when a Chicago Great Western relief engine coming from Rochester, Minnesota, to aid a stalled southbound freight crashed into the freight’s caboose in the blinding snow.
PINNED IN WRECKAGE
CLYDE EASTMAN, 30, McIntire, Iowa section worker, and PAUL BUTTERFIELD, McIntire section foremen, died in the hospital at New Hampton, Iowa.
Butterfield and Eastman were standing beside the tracks at the time of the collision.

Clyde Thaddeus Eastman was born May 1, 1916 in Mitchell Co., Iowa, the son of Thaddeus Eastman and Barbara (Frank) Eastman.
Clyde Eastman married Lillie Violet Tiegen. She was born April 19, 1919 in Mower County, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin Andrew Tiegen and Clara Elizabeth (Neus) Tiegen. She died November 19, 1996 in Freeborn County, Minnesota.
She is buried in the Wayne Cemetery and is on the same tombstone as Clyde.

Clyde and Lillie had at least three children:
Curtis Merlin Eastman 5 May 1939 born Mower Co., show parents as Clyde Thadens Eastman and Lillie Violet Tiegen
Adry Allen Eastman 11 Mar 1943 Mower Co. parents Clyde T. Eastman and Lillie Violet Tiegen
Dale Frederic Eastman born January 20 1946. died July 26, 1988 in Hennepin Co., Minnesota (buried Wayne Cemetery)

After Clyde’s death Lillie married Ole Jens Eggum on April 12, 1964. Ole was born February 24, 1901 and died August 10, 1977 in Albert Lea, Freeborn, Minnesota
Clyde Thaddeus Eastman was born May 1, 1916 in Mitchell Co., Iowa, the son of Thaddeus Eastman and Barbara (Frank) Eastman. He married Lillie Eggum. They had one son Dale Frederic Eastman.
