Advanced Age of 94Funeral services for Frank R. Woodiwiss, 94, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Champion Funeral Home with the Reverend Orville Mellquist officiating. Burial was made in the Mitchell cemetery. Mr. Woodiwiss died Saturday at the home of his son, Edwin, in Osage where he had been cared for recently.
Frank Robert Woodiwiss was born in Rockford, Illinois, January 11, 1855, to James and Mary Woodiwiss. He married Emma Jane Thayer of Rockford, Illinois on May 18, 1876, and they went at once to Rockford, Iowa, where they established their first home.
January 1, 1885, they moved to Mitchell County where he farmed in Burr Oak. Later they moved to Mitchell where he threshed and shredded corn. Mr. Woodiwiss lived in Mitchell County all his married life except six years spent in Howell County, Missouri.
As a boy he united with the Baptist church and took an active part in all its activities as long as his health permitted. Fourteen children were born to the Woodiwiss's.
His wife, two sons and one daughter preceded him in death. At the time of his wife's death 29 years ago, all his children were living.
Surviving are five daughters and six sons, Frank, Ralph and Harold of Ellingsburg, Washington; Charles, Ed, Mrs. Martin Havig and Mrs. Eva Donaghy of Osage; Walter of Clear Lake; Mrs. Hattie Newcomb of Colton, California, Mrs. Ed Grovo of Rochester and Mrs. Cora White of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
There were also 70 grandchildren, 47 of whom are living, 46 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Woodiwiss was the last of a family of seven children.
