Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 30, 1987 at the Little Cedar Methodist Church for Merril Loney, 75, of Little Cedar, who died Monday, April 27, 1987, at home. Rev. Bill Jenkins officiated, and burial was in the Little Cedar Cemetery.
Masonic rites were held at the gravesite by Osage Masonic Lodge No. 102, A.F. and A.M.
Mr. Loney was born on November 28, 1911 at Buffalo Springs, North Dakota, to Charles W. and Malena (Halverson) Loney. As a young child, he moved to Little Cedar where he attended schools. On May 20, 1933, he married Ruth Sanders in Little Cedar.
Mr. Loney worked for the Little Cedar Co-op Creamery for 47 years and was a butter-maker and co-op manager until retiring in 1976.
He was a member of the Osage Masonic Lodge No. 102, and served on the Little Cedar Methodist church board, Little Cedar Co-op Elevator board and the St. Ansgar Rural Electric Co. board. He was also president of the Little Cedar Cemetery Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Mary Alice, Belle, and Gail; for brothers: Byron, Myron, Truman and Will.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Little Cedar; two daughters, Mrs. D. Frederick (Sharon) Cook of Clear Lake, and Vera Boerjan of Osage; one son, Dean of Osage; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
