It is with regret that we record the death of Fr. Peschong, of Stacyville, who passed away on Tuesday afternoon. The funeral will be held this afternoon. Fr. Peschong was loved by his people and the people of Stacyville regardless of religious beliefs. He was a young man of only 44 and just in the prime of life. We will give further particulars next week.

Meyer – The sad news came last week of the death of our pastor, Rev. P. Peschong. He suffered but a short time when death released him of his pains. The obsequies services were held at St. Mary’s church. The whole congregation was there, besides many outsiders. Twenty-two priests from this state and Wisconsin paid their last respects to the deceased Confrater. The church was decorated neatly in the mourning colors of black and white; the organ swelled its sad and deep tones. An eloquent sermon was preached in English and German. Rev. L. Peschong, professor and procurator at St. Francis, Wisconsin, and brother of the deceased, was celebrant; Rev. J. Nacke, from Carroll, Iowa, deacon; Rev. J. Peschong, from Wisconsin, sub-deacon; Rev. V. Schirr, from Johnsburg, Minn., master of ceremonies. Besides these the following gentlemen were present: Revs. B. Forekenbrock, New Hampton; W. Knapstein, Springbrook; F. Boeding, St. Lucas; N. Bies, Bellevue; J. O’Brien, Riceville; J. Martin, Osage; Thos. Barry, New Haven; P. McGrath, Charles City, and several more. Rev. P. Peschong was born at Belguin, Wis., 1855; absolved his classical studies at St. Lawrence college, Mt. Calvary, Wis., and finished his philosophical and theological course at St. Francis, Wis., where he was ordained priest in 1879. He worked for 20 years in the Archdiocese of Dubuque, Ia., and had charge of this church for over four years. St. Joseph society and a host of friends accompanied the corpse to the depot, from where it was taken to St. Francis, Wis., his “Alma Mater,” for interment. May he rest in peace. To the mourners we express our deepest sympathy in the hour of sad affliction.

Rev. V. Schirr was at Stacyville Sunday conducting services at St. Mary’s church.

Meyer - Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock, Rev. V. Shirr, of Johnsburg, held services at St. Mary’s church in memory of the late pastor, Rev. P. Peschong. Many parishioners took part. In the afternoon he paid a visit to the school. He was very much surprised as the teacher gave him a reception. The schoolroom was highly decorated with the red, white and blue and a number of fine poems and songs were rendered. Also a few presents were donated to the pastor. He gave an address and expressed his thanks. Then he questioned all scholars and was highly pleased with their answers. He thinks the school in a flourishing condition.

The new pastor of St. Mary’s church has not yet arrived. Rev. V. Shirr conducted services last Sunday.
