HONORED AT A MEMORIAL
SERVICE TUESDAY

The Mitchell County Bar association held a memorial service, a tribute of respect to one of the late members, H. L. Stoughton, who passed away last month, in the court room on Tuesday afternoon, January 30.

Honorable J. F. Clyde presided over the meeting, which he opened with reading of resolutions of respect, and then comments upon them, and upon the life of Mr. Stoughton. This was followed by tributes from a number of Mr. Stoughton's local colleagues: Attorney's G. E. Marsh, A. A. Kugler, William Salisbury, A. E. Roberts, County Attorney F. C. Bush, H. G. Bartlett and Judge Edwards.

Mr. Stouoghton practiced law in this county for nearly fifteen yeawrs and filled a place in the community seldom equaled. His service and assistance were always obtainable, and to everone alike.

SUCCESS ATTAINED IN A WHEEL CHAIR

Any observer of human affairs knows that the mind has tremendous power when called upon to overcome any handicap placed upon the body. History tells the stories of many men and women who have rendered great service to the world in spite of physical affliction.

The name of Herbert Stoughton, Osage, Iowa, attorney, deserves a place in the annals of Iowa. This distinquished citizen of Mitchell county, who died this week on his forty-eighth birthday, had been a cripple since childhood. His life was spent in a wheel chair but in spite of this handicap he met with splendid success in his profession, and in a public way he was regarded as an outstanding lender in his community.

In recent years he had been considered Mitchell county's most accomplished welfare worker. This is the tribute that is paid to him in the news dispatches from Osage announcing his death. It is evident that his neighbors loved and respectedl him for his ability and had no occasion to pity him on account of his apparent misfortunes.

Here is a splendid example of a man who made the most of his opportunities. All of us with normal physical powers would do well to reflect upon the lesson presented in this career of useful citizenship.
