RECKNER, E. W. 1865 - 1939

E. W. Reckner, 73, a native of Howard County, and one of the most prominent farmers and citizens of the western part of the county, passed away at his home six miles northwest of Elma, Iowa, on Monday, April 3, 1939. Mr. Reckner had been ill three months, death coming from hardening of the arteries.

Mr. Reckner had always enjoyed fine health throughout his long lifetime, and his final sickness and death came as a great shock to his great number of friends and nearly everyone in Howard County knew "Uncle Ephriam" Reckner, as he was affectionally called by his close friends.

Mr. Reckner had lived a useful life. He has always been prominently identified with all civic enterprises in the Elma community. His greatest pride was his capacity as the director in the Elma Coop Creamery, of which he was a charter member.

Ephriam E. Reckner, the son of Carl and Louise Reckner, was born on the farm on which he died, on October 20, 1865.

Mr. Reckner was married on May 7, 1892 to Miss Mary Kruger at Riceville, Iowa. To this union were born ten children: Louise, Alvina, Harry, Lillian, Richard, Mary, Alfred, Raymond, Ephriam and Violet.

Surviving him are his aged widow and the following children: Mrs. C. F. Kapka and Mrs. Henry Bohneman of Riceville; Harry Reckner of Osage; Mrs. Albert Hobert of Rockford; and Alfred Reckner at home. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Anna Konst of Alta Vista and one brother, Christian Reckner of Norcross, Minnesota.

[ From a typed obituary at the Riceville Public Library ]

NOTES: Ephriam was likely buried at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery near Riceville, in Mitchell county, as the obituary was in a collection containing only people that were buried there.
