ARP, Julius Edward 1866-1953

Julius Edward Arp was born March 24, 1866 at the village of Steine, near Kiel and Rosendorf, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the first child of Heinrich Henry Arp and Bertha A Schoel (Arp). Julius had seven siblings (all born in Germany and all emigrated to Iowa):

Johannes Christian (born April 1868, married Agnes Jane, died May 27, 1951 McMinnville, Yamhill, Oregon);

Wilhelmina K. (born July 31, 1870, married Ferdinand Stoltenberg March 4, 1890 Tama, Iowa., died January 2, 1934 Trosky, Pipestone, Minnesota);

William Henry Jurgen (born October 4, 1872, died April 13, 1945 near Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada);

Anna Marie (born June 6, 1875, married August Jurgen Ketelsen March 10, 1898 Clutier, Tama, Iowa, died February 27, 1961 Osage, Mitchell, IA);

Adelia Helen (born January 26, 1878, married Fredrick Louis Witt January 15, 1897 Tama, Iowa, died May 27, 1965 Conrad, Grundy, Iowa;

Emma M (born February 22, 1882, married Hans Emil Klinker November 22, 1901 Tama, Iowa, died June 14, 1946 Little Falls, Morrison, Minnesota), and

Herman Henry (born April 20, 1884, married Dora Ehrig December 14, 1910 Gladbrook, Tama, Iowa, died January 13, 1974 Grundy Center, Grundy, Iowa).

Julius left Hamburg, Germany on March 25, 1885 to emigrate to America. He boarded the ship "Gellert", he was 19 years old. He traveled with his mother Bertha's two sisters Anna and Catherine -(Christian Wendorf and Anna (Schoel Wendorf) and Johan Christian Arp and Catherine Lena (Wolgelhagen Schoel) Arp) and his cousins (Johan and Catherine's six children). After they arrived in New York in October, they traveled by train to Davenport, Scott Co, Iowa, where they had relatives and friends.

Julius moved 1887 to Benton County, Iowa between Dysart and Clutier, Tama Co, Iowa. Married Margaretha Elizabeth Jansen March 1, 1896 at Homer, Benton, Iowa, and they had five children:

Henry Peter (born October 31, 1896 Homer, Benton, Iowa, died December 27, 1951 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa, never married, no children);

Edward William (born March 7, 1898 Homer, Benton, Iowa, married Hazel Lillian Frank December 12, 1936 Mitchell, Iowa, died March 23, 1989 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);

Elsie Sophia (born December 2, 1899 Traer, Tama, Iowa, married Louis Herman Koster February 18, 1922 Mitchell, Iowa, died March 25, 1981 St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa);

John B. (born 1901 Benton, Iowa, died November 26, 1938 Osage, Iowa, never married, no children) and

George A. (born Feburary 19, 1904 Tama, Iowa, died December 10, 1974 Osage, Iowa, never married, no children).

Julius was a farmer. He moved his family to Burr Oak, Mitchell, Iowa, about 1911 and bought a farm. Found Julius in the 1900 and 1910 censuses at Homer, Benton, Iowa and in the 1920 through 1930 censuses at Burr Oak, Mitchell, Iowa.

Julius Edward Arp died February 6, 1953 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Osage City Cemetery. His sons continued farming at Burr Oak and after their deaths, the farmsite and land was sold to the Funk family.
