Dies at Osage, IowaOSAGE, IOWA - Jere Wright Annis, resident of Osage since 1865, prominent in banking and other financial interests of the county, and an officer in and an officer in the Methodist Episcopal Church for approximately 50 years, died at his home here last evening. Funeral will be Sunday afternoon, conducted by Knights Templar. The body will lie in state at the family residence for several hours preceding the services.
Mr. Annis was born in Westfield, Vermont, in January, 1844, the son of Dr. and Mrs. A. W. Annis. He was graduated from Westfield seminary in 1862 and in 1864 was married to Lucia Hitchcock, who, with three children, Frank and Mrs. Laura McCabe, Osage; and Dr. Homer Annis, Minneapolis, survives.
Soon after their marriage the, couple left Vermont, coming westward and settling here. Mr. Annis first opened a general merchandise store, lateer operating a hardware supply house. He was cashier of Osage National Bank until a few years ago, remaining on the directorate after resigning other duties.
At death he was connected with the home Trust & Savings Bank, vice president of St. Ansgar Bank and partner in Stacyville Bank. For 15 years he was superintendent of M.E. Sunday school, having taught classes many years previous to receiving that office. He was eminent commander of Knights Templar of this city and a member of El Kahir Mystic Shriners at Cedar Rapids.
Besides the widow and three children there survive five grandchildren and two sisters, the latter in Los Angeles, California.

Jere Wright ANNIS, of Osage [Mitchell County], Iowa, son of A. W. and Laura (Hodgkin), was born in Westfield [Orleans County, Vermont], 22 January 1844. He received his education at the district schools of his native town [Westfield] and the Westfield Academy. Upon attaining his majority he removed to Osage [Mitchell County], Iowa, and there formed a partnership with E. O. Hitchcock in the mercantile business, which was successfully conducted until 1868, when he formed a partnership with Judge Hitchcock and J. H. Johnson, and conducted a large hardware business under the firm name of Johnson & Annis, which was continued until 1885, when he received the appointment of assistant cashier of the Osage National Bank, which was followed in 1891 by his promotion to the position of cashier, a position he still holds, as well as a directorship in the same institution.
Politically Mr. Annis has affiliated with the Republican party, and at the hands of his party was honored by an election to the mayoralty of Osage [Mitchell County, Iowa] in 1881, and again in 1893, being the present mayor. He is president of the Osage Board of Trade, president of the Mitchell County Farmers' Mutual Fire Insurance Company and Agricultural Society. He is a member of Osage Lodge No. 102, Free & Accepted Masons, and Osage Chapter, No. 36, and is Eminent Commander of Coeur de Leon Commandery, No. 19.
Mr. [Jere Wright] Annis was united in marriage 24 November 1864, at Westfield [Orleans County, Vermont], to Lucia S., daughter of Hiram and Harriet Hitchcock. Four children have blessed the union [of Jere Wright and Lucia S. (Hitchcock Annis]: Franklin W., Fanny, Laura I., and Homer B.
