MR. AND MRS. HJALMER LARSON LOSE SECOND CHILD WITHIN A WEEK
Last Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Hjalmer Larson buried their little two-year old daughter whose death occurred just a week after their baby's. In the evening after the funeral of the baby the little girl and her brother a couple of years older were eating peanuts and playfully blowing at the sack that lay on the table. In doing this a peanut meat was drawn into her windpipe.
Dr. Westenberger was immediately called but was unable to relieve her and the only consolation that remained was that she might cough it up. The nut seem to have passed further down into the bronchial tubes and breathing became easier and she did not seem to suffer a great deal.
Nothing more was done until Monday when Dr. Westenberger advised them to take her to either Mason City or Rochester. Mason City being the more easily reached she was taken there. The doctors there hesitated about attempting such an operation and advised taking her to Chicago, but there was no train leaving until the next day.
During Monday night it became apparent she could not survive such a journey and the doctors decided to do the best they could for her. They opened the windpipe and removed the nut. The little girl rallied and seemed quite bright, but toward evening it became evident she could not live, and she passed away between five and six o'clock.
The remains were brought home and the funeral held Saturday at the N.L. church. Almira Mildred Larson was born July 18, 1911 and died August 26, 1913, aged 2 years, 1 month and 8 days.
Mr. and Mrs. Larson have the sympathy of the entire community in their great sorrow.
