OSAGE, IOWA - Louis Hommez, 100, of Osage, died Friday, July 22, 2011, at the Faith Home in Osage.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Jack McClure, CPPS officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m.
According to Louis' wishes, cremation will take place following services. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.

Louis was born March 21, 1911, in East Moline, Illinois, the son of Camiel and Erma (Verbeke) Hommez. The family moved to Toeterville, where Louis graduated from eighth grade. Louis then moved to Chicago.

On September 14, 1937, he married Gertrude Juenger in Stacyville. They lived in Chicago and returned in 1940 to farm the family farm near Stacyville. In 1946, they moved to the farm near Osage. They retired and moved into Osage in 1982 and moved to the Evergreen Apartments in January 2003.

Louis worked for ASCS. He was a member of Farm Bureau and the Knights of Columbus. Louis was active with Cedar Valley Memories and was the Grand Marshal of the Cedar Valley Steam Engine Show in 2010. Louis and Gertrude enjoyed traveling to many states.

Louis is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Eugene) O'Brien of Ankeny, and their children, Darcy (Ken) Chesser, Kelly (Kevin) Lange, Kyle O'Brien, Kerry O'Brien; a son, Bob (Mary) Hommez of Osage, and their children, Michael (Susan) Hommez, Teri (Rick) Pitzen, Matthew (Jennifer) Hommez, Nicholas (Keri) Hommez; 13 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Francis (Inez) Hommez of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gertrude in 2007; brother, Joe Hommez; and sisters, Julia Hoover, Mary Falasco, Bertha Robinson, and Lena Krebsbach.
