MITCHELL, IOWA - Donald Jean Beyer, age 83, of Mitchell, died Friday (July 1, 2011) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Mitchell, with Pastor Robin Ramos officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mitchell, with military rites conducted by Osage V.F.W. Post 7920. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Donald was born May 24, 1928, near Mitchell, the son of George and Elfreida (Hackbart) Beyer. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Donald attended rural schools and in Mitchell. He was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church. Growing up, Donald worked construction and in the fields, and then worked for 30 years at White Farm, retiring in 1981. He served in the United States Army from 1950-1952, with the 7th Infantry in Korea. Donald was united in marriage to Neva Swartwood in 1955 and to this union, four children were born. He married Dorothy Mostek in 2002 at Faith Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Donald made his home in Mitchell all of his adult life. He loved the outdoors and was an avid coon hunter and trout fisherman.

Donald loved to travel, and had been to every state including twice to Alaska. He and his family enjoyed many vacations together. Donald also enjoyed crafts and made several lamps from native wood. His home was a showcase for his many hobbies. He will be sadly missed by all.

Donald is survived by his wife, Dorothy Beyer of Mitchell; his daughters, Faith Jenkins of Columbia, South Carolina, Irene Barrett of Mitchell, Susan Beyer of Flippen, Arkansas; his son, Lonnie (Lisa) Beyer of Osage; five grandsons, three granddaughters, several great-grandchildren; four step children, several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; four brothers, Dennis (Judy) Beyer of Fredericks-burg, Dale Beyer of Charles City, Dean (Anola) Beyer of Mitchell and George (Kris) Beyer of Mitchell; and two sisters, Dallas (Glen) Hein-zerling of Osage, and Delores Hucke of Beavertail, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Delbert and Darrell Beyer; and a sister, Dorothy Clayton.
