Death Comes to Ed Stacy

Pioneer Citizen Called to Final Reward

This community was shocked and grieved when word was passed Monday morning, January 30, that Ed Stacy had died that morning at 4 o'clock in the Nissen Hospital, where he had been taken two hours before, hoping that an operation might prolong his life. But Dr. Rohlf, who had been summoned from Waverly, said that it was too late, and a post-mortem confirmed his decision.

Ed Stacy was born July 13, 1848, in Judson, Walroth County, Wisconsin to Dr. and Mrs. John Stacy. His father combined the professions of medicine and county superintendent with practical farming; and his son grew up in a home of culture and refinement.

In the late '90's Mr. Stacy came to Mitchell County and made his home with his sister, Mrs. Frank Scofield, at Mitchell.

On April 10, 1872, he was married to Miss Ella M. Stacy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. I. Stacy, and for several years they lived in Mitchell, where Mr. Stacy was in the elevator business. In 1877 they moved to Osage, where Mr. Stacy engaged in the same business for many years. Later he opened a grocery store where the Johnson plumbing shop is now located, and was in that business for ten years, when he retired and moved into a tenant house on the farm of his brother-in-law, A. I. Stacy, west of town, ehlping when needed, but mainly resting from a long period of business life.

All of his married life Mr. Stacy had been a loyal and devoted attendant of the Congregational Church under the pastorate of the Reverend J. L. Walker, that Mr. Stacy came into the church membership. His life had always been an exemplification of the teachings of the lowly Nazarene.

Surviving are his widow and a sister, Mrs. Frank Scofield.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Congregational Church, his pastor, the Reverend A. E. Fish, officiating, and burial was in our city of the dead.
