SGT. MERRILL EDBERG
IS KILLED IN ACTION

Word was received Monday, July 16, by Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Edberg from the War Department stating that their son, Sgt. Merrill Edberg, had been killed in action on April 18, 1945, the same day that he was previously reported missing.

Sgt. Edberg enlisted in August, 1942, and was first stationed in New York and New Jersey with the coast artillery. He was then transferred to the field artillery and trained at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. He was sent overseas in December, 1944.

Merrill Edberg was born on November 13, 1922, in Belle Plaine, Minnesota. He graduated from Jackson, Minnesota, high school in 1940. He worked for two years in refrigerated lockers at Swea City, Iowa, prior to his enlistment.

He is survived by his father, Elmer Edberg; his step-mother, Mrs. Ceilia Edberg; two sisters, Lorraine of Marshall, Minnesota, and Marcella, employed at Thurow Motors; two brothers, Capt. Rolland Edberg, stationed at Great Falls, Montana, and Lyle, F 1-c, stationed at Rhode Island and three half brothers, Ward, Wayne and Dale, at home.
