Herbert Mayer

Funeral services for Herbert Mayer, age 79, will be Thursday, January 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. Reverend Jacob Roth will officiate with burial in Visitation Cemetery at Stacyville. He died Monday, January 9 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Osage, Iowa.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Funeral Home in Osage where Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Herbert Mayer was born January 10, 1904 near Stacyville, the son of Joseph and Josephine Mueller Mayer. He attended schools in Stacyville and Loras College in Dubuque.

He was united in marriage to Agnes Goergen on September 24, 1929 at Johnsburg. They farmed in the Stacyville area until 1966 when they retired to Osage.

He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marcella Mayer; and five brothers: Ed, Mike, Ernest, Roy and Ralph.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes of Osage; three daughters: Mrs. Cliff (Donna) Muesby of Prescott, Wisconsin, Mrs. Ernest (Shirley) Hackenmiller of rural Osage, Mrs. Melvin (Janice) Hackenmiller of Stacyville; one son, John of rural Osage; 25 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Heimer and Leona Mayer both of Stacyville.
