Mrs. Gertrude Goldberg
Mrs. Gertrude Goldberg was born in Smaaland, Sweden, December 12, 1844. She lived in her native country for more than half of her life. The call from the west brought her to America when she was nearly 45 years old.
A young man from Floyd County whom Mrs. Goldberg knew from earlier years back in Sweden wrote to her, inviting her to come to America. She responded favorably to his request and upon her arrival in this county she became his bride. This happy union continued for only seven years, when her husband, Peter Goldberg, died and was buried at Floyd in 1895. She remained in her widowhood for nearly thirty years until the call again came. She made ready for another journey to join the Heavenly Spouse upon the arrival at the shores of a more beautiful land.
She died Friday morning, the 23rd of May, after an illness of about seven weeks, reaching an age of 79 years, 5 months and 11 days.
Her only relatives are a brother in Berlin, Germany, and a sister in Stockholm, Sweden. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church of Osage, always trying to do her duty. She lived a quiet and peaceable life in all Godliness and honesty.
Her funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon by her pastor Reverend K. G. Nilsen. She was interred at the Osage Cemetery.
