Helen Bertha (Theobald) Hemann 1935-2011

Helen Bertha Hemann, 76, of Austin, Minnesota, died at Samaritan Bethany Heights in Rochester, Minnesota, on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

She was born on January 21, 1935, in Stacyville, Iowa, to Carl and Irma Theobald. Helen attended Visitation school. On Oct. 10, 1953, she married Willie Hemann. They made their home in Austin and were married 44 years before Willie’s death in 1997.

Helen retired from Austin Medical Center in 2002 after working 32 years in the dietary department.

She was a member of the Eagles Club. She loved playing cards, traveling — especially casino trips with the girls. She loved watching birds and enjoyed nature. Spending time with family and friends was most important to her as well as her Catholic faith.

Survivors include son, Chuck (Carmen) Hemann of Austin; grandson, Chad (Nikki) Hemann and Holly (Jeff) Lathrop; daughter, Sharon (Jim) Walters of Rochester; grandsons, Jason (Becky) Walters, Jesse Walters and granddaughter, Sara Walters; daughter, Suzanne (Joe) Ferris of Austin; granddaughter, Audrey Ferris and grandson, John Ferris; brothers, Roger (Darla) Theobald; Glen Theobald; sisters-in-law, Ann Theobald, Agnes Weber, Janet (Don) Wilson, Jeanne (Dean) Mauer; brothers-in law, Alfred (Wanda) Hemann, Robert Hemann; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie; children Bobby, Kathy and Gary Hemann; her parents; brothers Kenneth, Roy and Robert Theobald. She’s also preceded in death by in-laws, Charlie Weber, Leo and Dorothy Hemann, Tony and Gertrude Mostek, and Annie Hemann.

Family/friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. at Queen of Angels Church on Thursday, April 7, and also one hour prior to the mass on Friday. A memorial mass will be held at Queen of Angels Church 3 p.m. Friday, April 8, at with a luncheon following service.

Helen’s gift of giving continues after death, as she donated her body to the University of Minnesota in hopes of helping others.
