Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the United Methodist Church in Riceville for Mrs. Oscar Witzel, 69, who died Wednesday, April 12, at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital following an illness of two months.

The Rev. Maurice Gunn, church pastor was in charge of services with arrangements made by Champion Funeral Home of Osage. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery at Little Cedar.

Ethel Maye Slagle was born May 27, 1902 in Muscatine, the daughter of Nathan and Nellie Kephart Slagle.

Oscar Witzel and Ethel Slagle were married June 30, 1919 in Charles City. They farmed in the New Haven and Riceville areas until moving into Riceville 13 years ago.

Surviving are her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Cleo) Weber of Mason City; Mrs. John (Lola Maye) Church of Cresco and Mrs. James (Lillian) Garden of Charles City; eight grandchildren and one brother, Harold Slagle of Garner, one nephew and six nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
