Richard Richardson, 94, one of the oldest residents of the county, died at the home of his nephew, John Bower, after about a week's illness. He had, of course, suffered from the infirmities of his extreme age, but had been about until that time.

Richard Richardson was born in Brazier Falls, St. Lawrence County, New York, on October 20 about 1844. As a young man he came to Iowa with his parents, Samuel and Elsie Richardson.

They came by boat to McGregor, Iowa, and by ox team and covered wagon to Riceville, on June 16, 1864. In the fall of that year they moved to the farm in Mitchell County, where he spent the rest of his life.

Mr. Richardson died on February 25 at the approximate age of 94. He was one of a family of fourteen children. The nine boys were: Albert, Richard, Edward, Homer, William, Allan, Charles, John and Daniel: and the five girls: Victoria, Amy, Matilda, Jane and Julia.

The parents, five sisters and six brothers preceded him in death, leaving to mourn their loss, two remaining brothers, Charles of Burr Oak, and John, of Riceville, besides numerous nieces and nephews.

All his life Mr. Richardson enjoyed unusual health and strength and worked every day up to the last year of his life.

He belonged to no special church but lived his life according to the golden rule. He lived his entire life on a farm; was a good citizen and neighbor, and gave generously to all causes that he considered worthy.

He never married, but remained true to his first sweetheart, the one whom he hoped to marry, but whom death claimed before they could be married.

Funeral services were conducted at the Champion Funeral Home by Dr. Gilbert Chalice, pastor of the Methodist Church, and burial was in the Brownville Cemetery.

Osage - Richard Richardson, 87, died on Friday of pneumonia; born in St. Lawrence, New York, son of Samuel Richadson came with family to Mitchell County when 14 years old; farmed on home farm with a brother, Charles, until a year ago, when he went to the home of nephew, John Bower to live; was one of family of 14 children, two of whom survive, Charles and John both of Mitchell County. NOTES:

The age in the second obituary note is closer to his true age.

In the Feb. 1850 St. Lawrence County, New York Census Richard was not born yet. His brother, Albert was only 1/12 old. So his birth year would be closer to 1851-1852.

Also in the #1 obituary they spell Brasher Falls as Brazier Falls, but Brasher Falls is correct.
