FORREST A. HAVIG

MASON CITY - Forrest A. Havig, 77, of 630 S. Maryland Ave., died Monday (May 17, 1999) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Forrest A. Havig Memorial Fund.

Forrest A. Havig was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Osage, the son of Alfred and Elsie (Christenson) Havig. Forrest attended and graduated from Osage High School in 1938.

After high school, Forest attended Iowa State University for one year and then went to Kentucky to work as an electrician. He then returned to Iowa and worked as an electrician through the union for several years until 1965. He then worked at Park Hospital as a maintenance man and then at North Iowa Medical Center until he retired in 1994.

Forrest married Vergie Haught on Dec. 22, 1950, in Waterloo, Iowa.

Forrest was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the IBEW Union, Local No. 288 for over 55 years. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Vergie Havig, of Mason City; one daughter, Rochelle Havig, of Mason City; two sons, Roger Havig and his wife, Sharon, of Mason City; and Randy Havig, of Oklahoma City; one stepson, Ron Havig, of Elisnore, Calif.; three grandchildren, Robert Havig and Lori Havig, of Mason City, and Scott Havig, of Milwaukee; six great-grandchildren, Cameo, Isaiah, Kyle, Jordan, Tess and Scott Jr.; two sisters, Ruth Paulson and her husband, Gerald, of Norfolk, Neb., and Mary Louise Havig, of Norfolk, Neb.; one brother, Dean Havig and his wife, Angie, of Sacramento, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Bernard Havig, in 1953.
