DR. FRANK W. LEE, VETERAN MITCHELL PHYSICIAN DIES
MEDICAL LEADER WAS IN ACTIVE PRACTICE MORE THAN 50 YEARS

Osage – Dr. Frank W. Lee, a leading Mitchell County physician for more than a half century, died about midnight Tuesday in a Charles City hospital. He was taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Dr. Lee was born at Jefferson, Ohio, and came to Mitchell County, as a young man, living first at Orchard. He attended the Osage Seminary and then the University of Iowa, from which he was graduated March 1, 1887. Twenty days later he began his practice at Riceville. In 1923 he moved to Osage and had practiced here since.

Dr. Lee was one of the most progressive members of his profession. He purchased the first automobile to be used by a Mitchell County physician in 1910. He was the first to use diphtheria antitoxin, at a time when it was imported from Germany.

The first x-ray machine was brought to Mitchell County by Dr. Lee and his was the first blood pressure equipment to be brought here. Doctors came from many miles distant to see the equipment and learn how to use it.

Surviving are Mrs. Lee, and two children, Robert Lee of Camp Claiborne, La., and Mrs. Burton Hogan of Osage.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
