Jacob Hansen, after a long and painful illness, died Saturday afternoon. The announcement of his death was somewhat of a surprise to our people. It was well known that he could never recover, still it was not believed that the disease, or diseases, from which he was suffering would run to a fatal termination so soon.
The deceased was well known to everyone in St. Ansgar, having been a resident of this town since 1870, with the exception of the few years he spent in Dakota and other parts of the west.
He returned home from California about fifteen months ago in poor health, and informed the writer that he had come home to die. While working on a farm in that state he sustained injuries which caused consumption. Jack, as he was familiarly called by his acquaintances, was a young man well thought of by everybody.
He spoke of his sickness in a matter of fact sort of way, and bore his sufferings with great fortitude. He realized that his days among us were numbered and that he must sooner or later join the silent majority. Deceased was about thirty-four years of age at the time of his demise.
The funeral services were held at the Norwegian Lutheran church Monday afternoon and the mortal remains were entered in the Lutheran cemetery by the side of those of his mother and sister. The grief stricken relatives have the sympathy of all christian people in the death of the son and brother.
