HANSON, CERNEY

Last Thursday afternoon, November 10, 1898, Steen Hanson, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Hanson of Otranto township died at his home after a brief illness, age 16 years, 10 months, and 25 days. The funeral which was held Sunday, November 13, 1898 at the Norwegian Lutheran church, St. Ansgar, Iowa, was largely attended and was conducted by Rev. J. Olsen in Norwegian and Rev. E. Mebly in English at the church and he was buried in the Norwegian cemetery north of town.

Steen was in the first bloom of manhood, and was a boy of most excellent ways and of especially good character and of a kind and quiet disposition, never having anything to do with that which was frivelous and unkind. To his parents, brothers and sisters he was ever obedient, loving and considerate, and among his friends and neighbors he was everywhere regarded as a most examplary boy.

All that loving hearts could suggest or kind hands could do was done for him but his sickness was of such short duration that there was little opportunity to do for him. However in their sorrow they have the comfort of knowing that not a day passed but a prayer was on his lips and not a Sunday passed that he missed reading his bible and their faith tells them that Jesus has showed him mercy and taken him in his loving care, where he will dwell in eternal happiness.

We wish to express our most heartfelt thanks to all of the friends who, by their kind deeds and sympathetic words aided and comforted us during the sickness and after the death of our beloved son and brother.
