Conrad Lohr

Conrad Lohr died at his home in Nora Springs June 20, 1907, in his eighty second year.

Mr. Lohr was born in Blankenheim, Hessen, Germany on Dec. 27, 1825. He was married to Miss Anna Marie Kneisel in the year 1846. Mrs. Lohr preceded him in death on September 24, 1904.

They were blessed with eight children, three of whom have preceded their father to the home beyond: Christine, who died on their voyage to America, aged three years; William Lohr; and Mrs. William (Mary) Brandau. Mr. Peter C. Lohr, Mrs. Fred (Margaret) Buckman and Miss Amelia Lohr of Nora Springs, Mrs. George (Catherine) Apel of Floyd County, and Mr. George Lohr of Mitchell County, mourn his loss.

Mr. Lohr and his family immigrated to America in 1852. They lived three years in Erie County, Ohio, where he was engaged in farming. In 1855, the family came to Cedar Township, Mitchell County at a time when there were yet few settlers. The Lohr family came in company with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hartwig and family. Here he spent most of his years on a farm where he met with much success.

In the spring of 1895 he removed to Nora Springs, leading a quiet life. He was loved and respected by all. But his greatness did not alone consist in loyalty as a citizen, but in loyalty to Jesus Christ. He was a great churchman. To him, the Eden Presbyterian Church north of Rudd owes much of its past success, he being one of the charter members, and also its first elder. He united with this church June 20, 1879, and on June 20, 1907, he was taken to be united with the church beyond.

There survives him five children, twenty grandchildren, a brother, and a host of friends.

The funeral services were held at the German Presbyterian church, and his remains were laid to rest in the German Presbyterian cemetery. Rev. Koch officiated at the house and Rev. A. E. Boell at the church.
