Funeral services were held at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Rock Creek Lutheran church north of Nora Springs, for Mrs. August Ruther, 63, who died Friday morning, Dec. 8, (1944) at St. Luke's hospital at her home at Clarence, Iowa. The pastor of the church, the Rev. C. B. Gunderson, conducted the rites, and burial was in Rock Creek cemetery. Services were also held at Clarence at 2 o'clock Sunday in St. John's Evangelical church.

Mrs. Ruther, nee Augusta Wohlert, daughter of the late John and Christina Broderson Wohlert, was born in Holstein, Germany, on March 21, 1881. She was baptized in infancy and in 1894 was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany. The next year, she with several other members of her family, came to America, settling first in Cedar county and then moving to Cerro Gordo county.

Here she was married to Hans Christiansen on February 25, 1903. Six sons were born to the couple: Alvin, Carl, John and Glen, all of Mitchell county, Pfc. Herbert Christiansen, serving with the army at Clarinda, Iowa, and Lawrence Christiansen, SM1c, of the U.S. navy at Norfolk, Va., all of whom survive her.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1935. On December 2, 1937, she was united in marriage at Osage to August Ruther of Clarence and since then she has made her home in Clarence.

Her friends and family testify to her uncomplaining nature, which was borne out by the fact that though she undoubtly suffered her closest friends were unaware of the gravity of her condition. On Wednesday, Nov. 15, she underwent an operation of the same nature as one she had undergone 11 years ago. Her condition was not considered serious until a few days before her death, when her strength gradually failed. She had attained an age of 63 years, eight months and 17 days.

Surviving are her husband; six sons; one step-son; one step-daughter; numerous more distant relatives and a host of friends.

She was a member of St. John's church at Clarence, the Women's Gulid and the Social Service department of that orgainization;and also an attendant of the adult Bible class of the church school.
