Dr. Clifford Peter Goplerud of Iowa City, died Sunday, September 9, 2007, at Oaknoll following a lengthy illness. He was 82.

Visitation will be held at Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City on Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at the funeral home at 2 p.m. There will be a private burial. Flowers would be welcomed; however, in lieu of flowers, the family invites you to contribute to a charity of your choosing.

Pete was born in Osage, Iowa, to C.P. and Ethel Goplerud on December 6, 1924. He attended Carleton College and Washington and Lee University. In 1947, he married Eileen Ehred of Forest City, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1948. Pete served his country in the U.S. Army as a MASH physician in the first year of the war in Korea. Following various other military assignments, he was honorably discharged, as a Lieutenant Colonel, in 1956.

Pete and Eileen returned to Iowa City where he went on to join the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at The University of Iowa Hospitals. His distinguished career as physician and professor spanned more than thirty years, before his retirement in 1991.

Pete led a life devoted to Eileen and their family, dedicated to his profession, and with time in retirement to pursue his love of golf.

Pete is survived by his wife Eileen, their four children and their families: C. Peter, his wife Mariette Brodeur, Zoe and Ava; Harry, his wife Dr. Elizabeth Warner, Max and Dana; J. Barton, his wife Leslie Clemenson, Beck, Morgan, Sydney Clemenson and Morgan Clemenson; and Penne and her husband Stephen Taylor. He is also survived by his sister, Dr. E. Jane Goplerud; two sisters-in-law, June Goplerud and Rosemary Nemmers; and by Lynda Goplerud. He was pre-deceased by his parents; a sister, Ann Kennedy; and his brother, Harald F. Goplerud.
