RICEVILLE, IOWA - Hazel I. Kapka, 80, of Thompson, formerly of Riceville, died Saturday (Sept. 4, 1999) at North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Riceville, with the Rev. Matthew Versemann officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Riceville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Conway Funeral Home, Riceville, and one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.

Funeral services for Hazel Kapka were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 7 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville. The Rev. Matthew Versemann officiated. Interment was in Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were his nephews: Jim Womack, Jr., Ed Womack, Dale Slagle, George Theis, David Kapka, Charles Kapka and Lyle Kapka, Jr. Honorary bearers were grandsons: Craig Engelhardt, Ken Engelhardt and Randy Reicks. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Hazel, age 80, died Saturday, September 4, 1999 at the North Iowa Hospice in Mason City.

Hazel I. Kapka was born May 30, 1919 in Elma, the daughter of Pearl and Mary Olive (Wilden) Womack. She was educated in Howard County schools.

On June 20, 1939 she married Kenneth E. Kapka in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Riceville.

Hazel enjoyed growing flowers, tending the garden, cooking, taking care of her grandchildren, crossword puzzles and polka dancing.

She is survived by her three daughters: Cheryl Reicks of Thompson, Lois Engelhardt of Garrison and Jeanine Enderson of Thompson; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother: Jim Womack of Riceville; and two sisters: Gladys Grube of Charles City and Opal Polen of Montezuma.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth on April 28, 1984; her parents; four sisters: Lillian Marvin, Edna Slagle, Erma Albert and Joyce Weatherly; three brothers: Homer, George and Donald Womack; and one half brother, Mike Wilden.
