Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McIntire United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Carey officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Cemetery in rural Riceville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville and one hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday.

Gotchal Leonard Anderson, better known as "Pete," was born on December 30, 1914, in Lisbon, North Dakota, to Andrew and Rasmine (Hansen) Anderson. He came to Iowa as a young man with his two brothers to work as a farmhand. In 1937 he started working at Dolliver for Christina Hansen, managing the farm.

On May 4, 1940, he married Mabel Hansen, daughter of Christina Hansen, in Spencer. In 1942 they moved to an unimproved farm near Riceville. He had lived the last 53 years on the present farm. Gotchal and Mabel had five children: Larry, Nancy, Darrel, Dennis and Debra.

Gotchal loved his life as a farmer, enjoyed hunting and fishing trips and went on many fishing trips with family and friends. They have taken all the grandchildren to Canada except the three youngest. Upon retirement they spent several years in Mission, Texas. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was so proud of them all. Everyone who knows him knows how he could laugh about stories and humorous incidents.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel, of Riceville; two sons, Darrel and his wife, Sue, of Riceville, and Dennis and his wife, Becky, of Lisbon, N.D.; two daughters, Nancy Lubbert of Riceville, and Debra Roth and her husband, Greg, of Beloit, Wis.; 19 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Ervin and Edmund, both of Lisbon, N.D.; and those special friends who have spent many evenings playing 500 and getting together for potlucks for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; one son, Larry, in 1996; a daughter-in-law, Kay in 1994; and a son-in-law, Dean Lubbert in 1997.

Lindstrom Funeral Home, (641) 985-2242.
