MABEL O. FUNK

OSAGE, IOWA - Mabel O. Funk, 101, of Osage, died Wednesday (Feb. 23, 2000) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. She was born May 26, 1898, in Floyd County, near Rudd, the daughter of Martin and Martha (Gulbrandson) Olson.

Mabel moved with her family in 1910 to Burr Oak Township in Mitchell County, five miles northeast of Osage. She attended the local rural school and graduated from the Osage High School normal training course in 1918.

Mabel taught school for three years before her marriage to Roy C. Funk on June 22, 1921. They made their home on a farm in Burr Oak Township where they lived for 34 years. In April of 1955, they retired and moved to their new home at 721 Ash in Osage.

Mabel was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Osage for many years. She also had been a member of the community M.I. Club since 1921.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St. in Osage, with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She is survived by one daughter, Lavonne Morse and her husband, Keith, of Mason City; two sons, Keith Funk and his wife, Helen, of Osage, and Lavern Funk and his wife, Shirley, of Osage; one sister, Louella Brady of Atkinson, Neb.; one brother, Roy Olson of Yucca Valley, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Marlene Hopkins of Rochester, Minn., Margaret Brumm of Iowa City, Steven Funk of Vancouver, British Columbia, Tracy Funk of Osage, Todd Funk of Winona, Minn., Spencer Funk of Onalaska, Wis., Craig Morse of Naperville, Ill., and Jeff Morse of Libertyville, Ill.; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy, in 1956; and two brothers, Allert in 1976 and Myron in 1999.
