ALLENE MILDRED MARKHAM
OSAGE, IOWA - Allene Mildred Markham, 96, of Osage, died Monday, January 31, 2000, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
She was born February 14, 1903, in Burr Oak Township, Mitchell County, the daughter of Ray and Maude (Hadfield) Markham. She graduated from Osage High School, attended Carleton College, earned her B.A. degree from the University of Iowa and her Master's degree from Columbia University.
Allene taught at "Runge" rural school, 5th and 6th grade in Orchard schools, biology at West High School in Waterloo, Columbia High School in Maplewood, N.J., and at Osage High School.
She was a member of the PEO Chapter AW and the United Church of Christ in Osage.
She is survived by two great-nieces, Kari Katcher of Charles City and Kelley Wandro of Des Moines; a great-nephew, Christopher Markham of Des Moines; a foster daughter, Marsha Fisher of Davenport; a special friend, Mary Morey of Osage; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Luvern Markham; a nephew, Kent Markham and his wife, Connie.
Her body was cremated. A graveside inurnment service will take place at the Osage Cemetery at a later date.
