JAMES BALL, OSAGE, DIES, PLAN FUNERAL

Osage – James Ball, 81, died at the county home Monday afternoon. He was a life-long resident of Mitchell County.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Shelledy funeral home. Interment will be in Osage cemetery.

James Clinton Ball was born March 18, 1860 in Iowa, the son of George Clinton Ball 1840-1897 and Mary Ball. He married Una Viola Hatcher 1866-1947. His wife is buried in the Nary, Hubbard County, Cemetery, in Minnesota.

James C. Ball 1860-1941

James Ball was born March 18, 1860 in Iowa and died October 15, 1941 in Osage. He was the son of George Clinton Ball who was born January 6, 1840 in Indiana, came to Osage, Iowa at the age of 13 and lived there until his death November 9, 1897. He was an iron and tinware trader.

James Curtis** Ball and Una Viola Hatcher were married July 27, 1884. Mrs. Ball was born on March 25, 1865, daughter of Levi Hatcher who lived on a turkey farm near Orchard, Iowa. She died at Nary, Minnesota, September 20, 1947, at the home of her son.

They lived in various places in Mitchell County. Mr. Ball worked as a day laborer, farmed and in later years was a peanut and popcorn vender at auction sales. At one time he was a stagecoach driver until an accident resulting in the loss of one leg below the knee. He was backing the horses across a railroad track when the switch engine hit him.

The family of James and Una Ball were:

Mary Elizabeth (4/10/1885-3/29/1891).

Pearl Grace (12/20/1887-9/9/1908, married Walter Penney).

Walter Ray 4/23/1891-3/21/1980, married Fern Springer, farmed at Nary, Minnesota.

William Herbert (2/21/1894-3/6/1976, Tarzana, CA) Served in WWI.

George Levi (2/22/1896-9/12/1896].

Elsie Mae (11/20/1897-) Mrs. Clarence Diedrich, Northwood, Iowa.

Ralph Theodore Albertus "Bert" (10/10/1900 - 4/7/1941) married Ruth Buergelin, Los Angeles, CA.).

Cecil Preston (1/16/1905 - 9/10/1905).

Leonard Galen, 11/19/1905, living yet in 1989, married to Ethel McHenry, Carmichael, CA, Army WWII.

Walter Lincoln 2/12/1908 - 1/28/1910, died in a gun accident.

James and Una Ball are buried in Osage Cemetery.
