Jane Ellen Renner was born Dec. 4, 1861, in Buffalo City, Union County, Penn. She was the youngest of eight children born to William and Elizabeth Renner, all of whom have preceded her in death.

When a small child she with her family moved to St. Claire, Mo., where she spent several years; then they came to Iowa and settled on a farm six and one-half miles southeast of Osage, where she grew to womanhood.

On Nov. 27, 1885, she was united in marriage with Robert A. Gunsallus and shortly after they moved to Beech Creek, Penn., to make their home. Here their children were born; three sons and two daughters. They are: Mrs. Adrian bond, Austin, Minn.; John william Gunsallus, St. Ansgar, Iowa; Mrs.Charles Lonergan, Osage, Iowa; Jake Gunsallus, Orrick, Mo., and James A. Gunsallus, Osage, Iowa.

In the spring of 1898 they moved their family back to Iowa and began farming in Burr Oak township, Mitchell county.

In 1920 they decided to retire from the farm and purchased a home on Oak street in Osage. Later they became dissatisfied with town life and returned to the farm for several years. They again returned to Osage 9 years ago and it has been their home since. Mr. Gunsallus passed away April 26, 1941. Since that time Mrs. Gunsallus has spent the summer months with her children.

On Sept. 4, she suffered a stroke and was bedfast until death came on Sept. 29 at 8:30 p.m. She was cared for during her last illness at the home of her son, James.

Besides the five children mentioned above, she is survived by 31 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Her life is one that will be greatly remembered by all who knew her. She was a kind and loving mother, always ready and willing to do for others as well as for her own immediate family.

Funeral service was held at the Champion funeral home Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in charge of the Rev. John D. Kern, of the Baptist church, and burial was in the Osage Cemetery.
