Harriet Hadfield French was born in Waukesha, Wis., April 25, 1855, the daughter of Aaron and Elizabeth Derbyshire Hadfield. She died at Osage March 16, 1935.
In 1869, at the age of 14, she moved with her parents to Osage, where they lived for a short time and then moved to a farm in Burr Oak. She attended the public schools of Osage and one year at Mitchell. Afterward she taught in the rural schools of Mitchell County for two years.
On May 31, 1876, she was married to Franklin P. French. They lived at Little Cedar on the old French homestead for thirteen years then moved to Osage, in the year 1888, to the present home where they have since lived.
Mrs. French was a member of Easters Star and was active in the work of that organization as long as she was able. She was active in church work most of her life and for years was a member of the Ladies' Aid of the local Congregational church.
She is survived by her husband; two children-Mrs. Walter Sheldon, of Osage, and Mrs. Lewis F. Winship, of Owatonna, Minn; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ray Markham, of Osage, and Mrs. Henry Jury, of Murde, S.D.; and three brothers, Rangley Hadfield, of Fullerton, Neb., A.G. Hadfield, of Blaine, Wash., and C.S. Hadfield, of Long Beach, Calif.
Services were held at the Shelledy Funeral Home Monday afternoon, March 18, at 2 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Stiles Lessly, and burial made in the Osage cemetery.
