Peder (or Peter) Dock 1836-1921

Peder P. Dock was born in Norway on March 25, 1836, the son of Peder Dock and Thuri Haagensdatter [ another source says his parents were: Peder Thompson and Caroline Peterson. ] His father died in Norway when Peter was a small boy.

In 1861 Peter, his mother, and his brother, Knute sailed for America, settling in Blooming Prairie Township, Steele County, Minnesota.

After coming to America, Peter first worked on a farm for two years, in Iowa, earning little but room and board. After this he took a homestead in Bloming Prairie Township, where he remained for four years.

Times were hard, so Mr. Dock sold his claim and moved to Mitchell County, Iowa, where he purchased 120 acres of land -- which he broke, tilled and developed.

In 1903 he sold the farm and moved to Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa where he purchased a 160 acre farm. There he lived until 1910, whe he rented out the farm and purchased a home in Lyle, Minnesota where he lived until January 10, 1921, when he died. He was a Republican in politics and a member of the Lutheran Church.

Mr. Dock was married in August 1865 to Synove Peterson, a native of Norway. To this union seven children were born: Peter P. Jr., Sever, Theodore, Oliver, Caroline, Mina Rosina (Rosa), and Penilla (Lena).

Peter is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa.
