Bjorn Ellingson was born in 1841 and emigrated from Flaa, Hallingdal, Norway in 1866. He married Barbro Hanson in 1866 shortly after Barbro had come to Mitchell County with her parents, Ingeborg and Ole Hanson.

Bjorn and Barbro were members of the St. Ansgar Lutheran congregation until the time of the organization of the Deer Creek congregation in 1877, becoming charter members.
They were the parents of four children: Elling (1866-1951), (Married Serena Knutson); Ole (1970-195?), (married Annie Berg); Julie, (1875-1960), (Married Andrew Severson); and Gunder (1878-1937), (Married Betsy Thorson).
Bjorn was buried in First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa.
